I woke up that morning knowing it would be “interesting” down at the Bay and over by the Mill Creek (Buckeye Brook) Bridge. The rain had backed off a bit from the pounding that occurred during our semi-sleepless night. Dawn was here, and I checked some wind and buoy data online, and I headed outside. While I wasn’t alone, there were only 2 other weather seekers out when I got to Lippitt Park. One cheated – she was in a Jeep nice and dry!

The seawall at Lippitt Park was “missing” underwater and getting a pounding. Then, I wondered what it would look like after the seas & tide backed off. [I checked later and happily found it much like it has been since the January 17, 2022, storm. A little more mortar gone, but the wall held up. Warwick Mayor Picozzi responded to me in writing before the storm that the wall will be properly repaired in the Spring of 2023. I sent him a video of the pounding it took at peak high tide.]

Below is some wind and tide data I captured from both my “Windy App” and also took screen shots off of the Conimicut Lighthouse Station/NOAA Weather charting. I saw the wind and water was peaking together at high tide just 15 minutes after I started down Mill Cove Road.

Click on an image in the “Storm Mosaic” to see an enlarged version of the photo. Take note of the weather data that was a bit over an hour after my first capturing. The tide was way up there. The peak wind speed was up there too and luckily backed off soon after that max. This wasn’t a long duration storm at its peak, and that spared us additional damage & flooding. Based on my post-storm Holiday Lights photos, a lot of the outdoor decorations held up. Thankful for that!

Got home, dried both myself & my iPhone off, and had a cup of coffee. I’m sure many of you peered out your windows and headed back to bed! Why not – it was pretty nasty early!

Thankfully it wasn’t long before I spotted some blue sky. That disappeared and the gray sky hung around, but it hinted the storm was moving up to the South Coast of MA and into Maine. Boston, Portland and points Downeast were next. They got it way worse than us!
