Police Report (Jul 1-present):
Colonel McCartney and his commanding officers were in attendance to speak about specific incidents occurring around Riverview recently:

  • *8/14 incident on West Shore near Tidewater -the man arrested was shooting inside empty/abandoned/foreclosed house, bullets went through windows/siding and traveled across street striking a person in her doorway (non-life-threatening injuries), does not appear to have deliberately shot at the person, suspect was found nearby, was found to be under the influence, weapon and ammunition was found, charged with 5 firearms offences, still at ACI
  • *8/23 incident on Lippitt Ave -a male suspect (non-resident) was arrested and charged with domestic assault, disorderly conduct
  • *8/22 suspect in Narragansett bank robbery arrested in woods of Rocky Point -taken into police custody without incident.
  • Lengthy discussion took place about the numerous calls received about the subjects around the bus stop on West Shore at Tidewater. The police received approx. 18 calls in July and Aug; same 5 subjects involved. Police were questioned on the action/ procedures taken; why it continues to happen over and over again. It was explained that it is not a crime to be intoxicated, but if there is a disturbance and they are found with open containers they can be detained, hospitalized, and then released to a sober adult. Police stressed importance of calling in reports/complaints. If incidents keep happening, keep calling in. Also follow up by contacting our Community Officer and informing RVIA. Speeding on Tidewater continues to be a problem, still being monitored. Other than 3 incidents above -no malicious damage, larceny, or burglary reports.

Old Business:

Sewer Meeting still being planned, will be announced.

Neighborhood Yard Sale had poor participation, will skip this organized event in 2019.

New message board has been made and installed at corner of Wentworth/Mill Cove.

New Business:

Discussion took place on annual Block Party -original planned date was Sept 9, not enough time to plan, discussed postponing or canceling event or creating a different event. Was decided to postpone to Sept 23 so we have more time to plan.

Discussed possibly having catered again, possibly chowder & clam cakes from Iggy’s. Tricia also volunteered use of her grill if we decide to cook burgers. Need people to help with planning and set up.

Conimicut’s annual Pumpkin Spooktacular in October – Riverview should partake again as this event is only Halloween event for children in our area. Will need volunteers to help with carving pumpkins and help on event day/night.

Beach Cleanup w/Save The Bay is Sept 15th at 8:45am.

Next quarterly meeting is scheduled for Nov. 26th, 7pm

Councilman Ladouceur:
Reiterated that he is in process of planning meeting about sewer project update, will be announced. It was noted that some neighbors have installed septic systems recently and there was a question about assessment fees.

Meeting adjourned 8:16pm.
