RVIA Meeting Minutes
February 1, 2012

Start of meeting: 7:00 pm

Present: Nancy Striuli, Officer Steven Nelson (WPD), Bill Sears, Catherine Monks, Kevin Eisemann, and Stephanie Van Patten.

Items discussed:

  1. Officer Steven Nelson provided an update of the types of reports that have been filled recently in the neighborhood and the surrounding areas. Most crimes were minor ones that involved a few thefts from unlocked cars. More specifically, cars are being broken into in the Rocky Point parking lot because people are leaving valuables (phones, computers, purses, etc.) visible when they leave their car. The officer reminded everyone to lock their cars and hide their personal belongings.

When asked about concerns that we have the following were noted. Neighbors noted the noise level of parties late at night. if anyone has concerns that the police officers can address, please leave a message at 468-4373. Steven will get back to you as soon as possible. Don’t worry if no one answers the phones. The officers listen to the messages on a regular basis when they return from their patrols.
  2. Officer Nelson also stated that there will be a Citizens Police Academy this spring from March 14 – May 16 on Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 9:00 pm at the police station. If anyone has any questions, please email Officer Nelson at steven.nelson@warwickri.com or call him at 468-4373.
  3. To track crime in the neighborhood you can also use www.crimereports.com.
  4. Nancy is working on a newsletter to be sent to all neighbors and will include the following:
    A welcome to new neighbors
A membership form and return envelope

Calendar of events: (To be determined)

  • A reminder that dogs need to be leashed when on a walk.
  • A reminder that DPW does issue parking bans during a snowstorm.
  • A reminder that dogs should not be left outside all day long as barking disrupts neighbors.
  1. Street signs are in but the city does not currently have the manpower to install them. Nancy will contact them soon to get an update. We would like the old signs to use at the Adult Social for the auction.
  2. Lippitt Park now has a blue trash barrel, a dog station for bags and garbage can, and the break wall has been repaired. Thanks to Bill Sears for all of his efforts!
  3. The Adult Social has been set for March 10th at 15 River Vue Avenue (The Shuster’s) at 7:00 pm. The cost is $10 pp and there will be a silent auction.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
