RVIA Meeting Minutes
August 10, 2011

Start of meeting: 7:00

Present: Nancy Striuli, Leo Tetreault (WPD), Lou Costa, Bill Sears, Dan Sullivan, Don Barrows, Rae-Scott Skinner, Lori Daiello, Catherine and Dana Monks, Kathy and Kevin Eisemann, David Woisard, and Désirée Schuler.

Items discussed:

  1. Introduction of new and old neighbors.
  2. Officer Leo Tetreault provided an update of the types of reports that have been filled recently in the neighborhood and the surrounding areas. Most crimes were minor ones that involved a few thefts from unlocked sheds and homes and a few fights at local bars. The officer reminded everyone to lock their sheds, barns and doors. When asked about concerns that we have the following were noted. Neighbors noticed that large fireworks are being set off from time to time late at night. People who come to fish or walk their dogs seem to spend more time in the neighborhood. Many people do not pick up after their dogs. A trash barrel for Lippitt Park is in the works. If anyone has concerns that the police officers can address, please leave a message at 468-4375. Leo and Michelle will get back to you as soon as possible. Don\’t worry if no one answers the phones. The officers listen to the messages on a regular basis when they return from their patrols.
  3. Street signs are in the works. New blue street signs have been ordered and blank signs should arrive within the next month.
  4. A bid has been put out to fix the breakfront in the Lippitt Park.
  5. The Block party will take place at Lippitt Park. Details to be announced. Sunday, Sept. 11 from 1-4. It is time to renew memberships at the party. Please bring $10 dollars to pay your membership. Everyone liked the ice cream cart, but it was expensive to rent the cart. David suggested to find an alternative to store the ice cream. The cart was a little over $400 in addition to the items that had been donated. David will check into renting coolers for the event to help defray the costs. To remember the Sept. 11 anniversary, the association will think of an appropriate tribute.
  6. Nancy would like to get out another newsletter before the block party. Items to include should include reminders to clean up after dogs, the annual memberships, and events in the neighborhood. Pictures can be included from our website. One of the interesting donations to the association is a post card from 1909 that was printed in Germany. The Talty brothers produced the now historical cards. A few of the cards are posted on our website.
  7. The bricks in the park still need fixing. Dan reminded the association that his brick is still not fixed. Nancy will contact Sandra to find out the status of the project.
  8. Warwick has put together a comprehensive plan to discuss the future of housing, neighborhoods, and parks. Nancy, Frank, and Stephanie attended the meeting. Access to the beach was one of the main concerns for Ward 5. Commercial areas in ward five are very limited. The only area that was identified West Shore Road up to Wild’s Corner was identified as a concern. The largest concern is the condition of the streets. People liked the parks that we have in the area. The new Rocky Point Park was also well received. Nothing seems to have done anything about the structure on the beach that is usually used by kids as a hangout on the beach.
  9. Concerns about the sewers and septic systems were expressed. The city is in negotiations with the Native Americans. Frank has submitted legislation which has been approved to extend the deadline.
  10. The landscaping of the park needs tending and a general clean-up is also needed. Hopefully the retaining wall will be fixed by the time of the block party and a general clean up can take place as well. Anyone who is willing to spend a couple of hours on Sept. 4 from 7 to 10 am, please contact Nancy if you are able to help.

Meeting was adjourned at 8 pm.
