Meadowbrook Pasta Dinner

The "Macaroni Dinner" presented to the Meadowbrook Tenants Association on Saturday, January 17, 2009 was a great success!  The residents truly appreciated the dinner and dessert treats.  Thank you very much to all the RVIA neighborhood volunteers that made this a very enjoyable and tasty dinner.

Block Grant Update

Minutes from the June 24, 2009 meeting are posted in the "Meeting Minutes" section. Voting results that now officially prioritize projects are presented.

The following links and information below pertain to information presented
at Wednesday night's (6/10/09) meeting:

This section was last updated at 9:00 PM, June 23, 2009 (That's it for now)

Please take notice of important information pertaining to any/all coast-wise landscaping proposals (provided by Kara Lund, 92 Cady Ave.)
Kara presented her document to RVIA with the following email introduction:
"Please post the attached word document to the association website asap.
The information attached will answer questions regarding what is permissable to the coastal area and will help facilitate a more informed discussion regarding public access at the end of Cady and Whipple."

Note: Items below are NOT listed in a prioritized order.

If an item isn't posted here as of the last update, it's because I don't have the info.
Please refer to Tina Carter's June 10 Meeting Minutes, for important supporting information!
Send any additional info & price estimates to dwoisard@cox.net. Thanks!

Total Available Block Grant Funds: $24,500.00

The Steel Yard - Trash Can Surrounds, $3680.00 (or $920.00 Each; QTY 4; Riverview Excluded?):
Photos & Project Scope and Price Estimate (Adobe PDF)

Welcome to Riverview Sign, Approx. $500.00 (~ min) & Street Signs, $7367.50
:
Photo/Description & Price Quotation (PDF)
Note: Street signs are approx. $200.00 each with vinyl on both sides plus $10.50 each for the bracket.
Total price above assumes RVIA has 35 signs to hang (I think I heard this count).

Backyards on the Bay - http://www.savebay.info/backyardbay/index.htm
(Link provided by Brenda Smith, Narragansett Bay Commission. Tips on dealing with property near the Bay)

Mulchworks - Project Estimate for Whipple Avenue (PDF), Project Estimate for Cady Avenue (PDF)
Total Estimate = $8,250.00 (or $5400.00 - per price adjustments below);
Cady Ave Portion = $5800.00 (or $2000.00 less if brush is not cleared on the sides).
Whipple Ave Portion = *$2450.00 (or $800.00 less when "used" granite is installed - like new 2nd hand). The "Used Granite" is the intended installation. Nancy Striuli reports an adjusted price of *$1600 as of June 15, 2009. Refer to the actual estimate PDFs if this 2-tier price presentation is confusing.

Please take notice that the plan above is not a direct comparison to the Howell proposals below. While similar, there are no prepared sketches that define the scope of work and does not represent a direct competing quote.

New Mulchworks proposal for Cady Avenue (added 6/23/09) - Estimate Amount: $5875.00

Howell Artisans Trees - Combined Project Estimate for Cady & Whipple Avenues (PDF), Site Plans for Cady & Whipple Avenues
Total Estimate = $12,322.00; Cady Ave Portion = $6392.00 / Whipple Ave Portion = $5930.00
Please take notice that this combined estimate does not include the discussed clearing/revitalization of the lot on Cady (i.e. proposed playground area or improved space).

A message from Tina Carter (Per email distributed to members on May 4, 2009):

Note: Meeting Date updated to June 10, 2009 at 7:00 PM

Dear Neighbors,
The neighbors who attended the Block Grant meeting on Wednesday night, discussed previously suggested projects and new ideas, and then ranked the projects according to priority. Below is the list of projects and their current priority order. At this time, estimates are being collected for these projects. Once the estimates come in, a final meeting will be scheduled to make final decisions on which projects will move forward using the Block Grant funds. If you have an opinion and want it heard, it is imperative that you attend the next meeting on
June 10, 2009 at 7:00PM
.
If you cannot attend the next meeting but have an opinion you would like to share, email the the Association at riverviewassoc@cox.net and your ideas were be shared at the meeting.

Projects:
1. Four projects were ranked into this category: 1) playground at the end of Cady on city owned property; 2) access/walkway to the beach at the end of Mill Cove; 3) access/walkway to the beach at the end of Whipple (such as adding stone steps down to the beach); and 4) access/walkway to the beach at the end of Cady (clean out the current walkway and add some boulders). A variety of landscaping companies are being contacted for estimates.
2. Riverview Street signs- adding new signs (like the ones in Conimicut) for our neighborhood. 35 signs would be needed at a cost of about $100 each, total of $3,500
3. Artistic Trash Cans- instead of purchasing 4, it was suggested that only 2 be bought and put at the end of Lippitt and Cady (if a playground is put in). Simple ones cost $600 each and individualized ones cost $920.
4. Bricks and correct the spelling of "Cady" on the stone at the end of Lippitt- about $1,000 (neighbors thought this was too much money for this project and wondering if there were other options to correct it or it could go out to bid).
5. Welcome to Riverview Sign- place at the bridge, costing around $1,500 (neighbors thought this was too much money for this project and wondering if it could go out to bid).

An email will be sent out about the meeting to make final decisions. Thanks for you suport and your ideas to help make our neighborhood a nicer place to live!
